View from the ground up!

Its been two years since we began the first plantation in Thumki plot, and today the plot is greener than ever. The local team with Harka sir and Hari Ale Magar are actively engaging and building up the vision from the ground up. Working with The Mountain Institute (TMI) chiraito cultivation which began in 2010, now has an 82% success rate in Namje, Thumki and Mejuwa villages (Bhedetar-6, 7, 8). More than 75 crop species are growing within the contours of the 20-ropani plot. The local experts have gone to train over 109 additional farmers in adjacent Raja Rani and Dada Bazaar VDCs. This year, we hope to incorporate passive solar and rainwater harvesting into the plot.

Post CNN announcement of Namje as a world's hidden destination, the locals have developed a village home stay program in conjunction with the VDC and tourism industry. Fifteen new homes were added to the village home stay program in Thumki with Harka sir leading the project. Since then Thumki and Namje villages have hosted national, international travellers, volunteers and students. The pictures are a courtesy of a volunteer from Yale University, Mingyuan Song who is currently volunteering in the village.

Thumki plot is growing in size and reach. The aim to make it a demonstration, a teaching tool and an arboretum of creativity is slowly but surely being developed with the hardwork and dedication of the local community. Thanks to everyone who is supporting this project!
